Tasting Notes

The 2021 Seven Apart Expedition is another classic example of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Out of the bottle, this wine is beautifully rich in color with an intense ruby hue towards the edge of the glass. On the nose, the wine greets you with aromas of dark red cherries, blackberries, and ripe cranberries, followed by subtle notes of baking spice, well-integrated oak, and hints of flint and freshly cut ipe. On the palate, the wine greets you with soft tannins and vibrant freshness that builds to a well-balanced midpalate, giving way to a luscious, lingering finish brimming with layers of ripe black plum, raspberries, blackberry coulis, licorice, and a hint of mocha.

Winemaking

95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3 % Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot, and 43% New French Oak. The grapes are hand harvested at night to ensure that the grapes come in cold in order to minimize oxidation. The grapes are slowly fermented at cooler temperatures to help preserve aromas. Once the initial fermentation is complete, the wine is transferred to French oak barrels where Malolactic fermentation takes place to soften and stabilize the wines. The wine is then racked off its lees and aged for 18 months in barrels before bottling.

Aging

Approachable upon releases. Cellaring 5-8 years will reward with a slightly developed bottle bouquet. Can age 25+ years.

“The 2021 Seven Apart Expedition Cabernet Sauvignon, with 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot in the blend, is deep garnet-purple in color. After a swirl or two, the nose erupts with wonderfully pure scents of blackcurrant jelly, kirsch, and black raspberries plus suggestions of camphor, violets, and tilled soil with a touch of cinnamon toast. Big, rich, and full-bodied, the palate delivers impactful black fruit and baking spice layers, framed by exquisitely ripe fine-grained tannins and well-knit freshness, finishing long and fragrant. This is gorgeous!” — Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Independent
A DISTINCT VINEYARD

For Napa Valley 2021 vintage was a much-needed breath of fresh air both literally and figuratively. Coming off the heels of one of Napa Valley’s most challenging vintages on record due to the catastrophic 2020 fires and smoke taint related issues. 2021 is a great vintage for Napa Valley, giving back the high energy and intensity that makes Napa Valley so special. The year started off beautifully with a very mild winter and limited winter rains causing vineyards to produce lower than normal yields due to smaller berry sizes. A very mild spring with no excessive heat waves or unexpected rains followed by perfect Indian summer conditions allowing the fruit to be picked at optimal ripens. A perfect combination of all those factors resulted in exceptional wines that are well-structured, full bodied, intensely flavored, and have a great energy to them allowing the wines to age for decades.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How many bottles can I purchase?

As a member of our Allocation List, you may purchase up to 24 bottles of the 2021 Expedition Cabernet Sauvignon.

Why can I only purchase in quantities of 3, 6, 12, or 24 bottles?

We understand many would be interested in purchasing only 1 bottle of this wine; however, we can assure you that 1 bottle will not be enough to satisfy your cravings after your first sip.
